History 1927 - 2009

	University		Schools
	In 1927, the then named Roomsch Katholieke Handelshoogeschool, with 5 professors and 8 lecturers, opened its doors to 28 Economics students
	New name: Katholieke Economische Hogeschool		Faculty of Law and Faculty of Social and Behaviorual Sciences established
			Tilburg Faculty of Theology established
			Psychology introduced within the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences
			Faculty of Philosopy established
			Faculty of Arts established
	The Institute of professional education became a university: Katholieke Universiteit Brabant (Tilburg University) Tias established (now TiasNimbas Business School).
	Merger with the Catholic Theological University at Utrecht		Merger of Tilburg Faculty of Theology
	Tilburg University celebrates its 80th anniversary		Faculty of Catholic Theology established New Faculty of Humanities established, which incorportes the faculties of Arts, Philosopy, and Theology and Religious Studies

Martinus Cobbenhagen

The name of the priest and academic, Martinus Cobbenhagen, and Tilburg University are inextricably bound to one another. Cobbenhagen is one of the founding fathers of the Roomsch Katholieke Handelshoogeschoool (School of Economics), the forerunner to our university. Cobbenhagen was Professor of General Theory and History of Economics from 1929 to 1954, during which time, he made his own very memorable mark on the programme. Cobbenhagen was the first in the Netherlands to propagate the notion that the practice and ethics of economics go hand in hand; an idea that to this day forms one of the corner stones of the university's identity.
