Organization and management
The nature of the academic education at Tilburg University sets it apart from the so-called ‘Rijksuniversiteiten (‘national universities’). The university works on the principle of promoting and sustaining academic education and research with a pronounced Catholic signature.
The Board of Governors oversees the objectives of the university and functions as a Supervisory Board. Its powers are largely delegated to the Executive Board, itself appointed by the Board of Governors. Staff and student participation in decision-making is embodied at a central level in the University Council, while at a decentralized level there are faculty councils and service department councils.
The Executive Board consults with the University Labour Representation Board, whose members include trade union representatives, with regard to all legal matters.
