Executive Board

The Executive Board is the university’s managing committee. It is in charge of the university’s administrative affairs and management. The Executive Board is also responsible for the efficient financial management, personnel management, and health & safety, and other working conditions. The Executive Board is accountable to the Board of Governors.

dr. K.M. (Koen) Becking,
President of Tilburg University

Dr. Koen Becking has been the Chairman of the Executive Board of Tilburg University since 1 October 2012. He is responsible for general administrative matters, such as the relationship with the Supervisory Board and the University Council. Additionally, he works on the University’s strategic policy, identity and administrative and social representation. He is also responsible for personnel and student policies. His portfolio includes legal affairs, communications and marketing, Univers the University journal, the Academic Forum, financial affairs, construction work, facility management and ICT.

Before Koen Becking joined us at Tilburg University, he was chairman at the Dutch national broadcaster, the KRO (2007-2012). Previous to that, he was Managing Director at the ROI, a training centre for senior members of the Dutch government (2002-2007). He has also worked for the Ministry of Justice and the Center for Labor Relations.

Koen Becking studied political science at the University of Amsterdam from 1988 to 1992, and in 1999 he received a Master’s degree in Public Administration at the Netherlands School of Public Administration. In 2002 he was awarded a PhD from Utrecht University for his analysis of ten years of labor relations in the public sector. From 2003 to 2009, he was a professor by special appointment at the School of Public Leadership at Stellenbosch University in South Africa.

Professor dr. Ph (Philip) Eijlander (1957) is responsible for:

  • Education policy, including transition issues from pre-university to university level and cooperation with higher professionnal education (HBO)
  • Research policy, including indirectly funded and contract research
  • Internationalization
  • Postgraduate programmes and TIAS
  • Chairs policy
  • Library and computerization policy
  • Academic representation (Doctorate Board.

mw. E.A.C.M. (Mylène) Zwaans BeC MMO

Mylène Zwaans is Secretary of the University, the General Manager and the Director of Corporate Staff. She supports and advises the Executive Board, is responsible for the coordination of policy and decision-making, for communication on decisions taken and for monitoring their implementation. She supports the Board in its operations, provides leadership for the department directors and chairs the campus-wide consultative sessions at directorship level. She also manages a number of university-wide projects and programs and heads the Corporate Staff.

Mylène has worked for Tilburg University since 2003, first as Head of the Finance and Payroll Department, later as Managing Director of Netspar. In 2009 she was appointed to the post of Managing Director and Deputy Director of IVA Policy Research and Advice. She took up her current position as Secretary of the University on October 1, 2012.

Before Mylène Zwaans joined Tilburg University, she worked at KPMG Accountants (1991-1997) and as an independent interim manager and project manager (1998-2003). She completed one year of business economics at what was then the Catholic University of Brussels (1989) and went on to obtain and SPD qualification at Fontys University of Applied Sciences (1999). Later she took the Executive Master’s program in Management & Organization at TiasNimbas (2009).
