Tilburg School of Catholic Theology

Thinking through faith

About the School

On the 1st of January 2007, the School of Catholic Theology was founded at Tilburg University, following a merger between the Catholic Theological University in Utrecht and the Tilburg Faculty of Theology.

  • The School is located on two campuses, in Utrecht and Tilburg.

  • The School is recognised by the Holy See and the Dutch Catholic Bishops' Conference.

  • The School is responsible for providing academic instruction and scientific support for Catholic theology and other related fields of study (e.g. philosophy, psychology, sociology and religious studies).

  • The School strives to guide and instruct people who are preparing for ecclesiastical, social or scientific functions that concern questions about faith, meaning and existence. These functions include pastoral care and teaching positions.

  • The School welcomes all who are interested in theology or who would like to deepen their faith as well as their ability to think critically.

  • Moreover, the School is the only Catholic School of Theology in the Netherlands where scientific instruction provides entry to ecclesiastical offices and services (future priests, deacons and pastoral workers).
