About Global Law@Tilburg

Over the half century of its existence, Tilburg Law School has always aspired to be at the front of important changes that effect legal practice and the legal discipline. In the latter decades of the 20th century, the school took an early turn towards a comparative and European perspective of law. During the first decade of the 21st century, the interdisciplinary study of law and society was high on our agenda with the founding of dedicated research centres to the interdisciplinary study of law, such as TILEC (the Tilburg Law and Economics Center); Intervict (a victimology research center); and TILT (the Tilburg Institute for Law, Technology and Society). In addition, TLS houses a research centre devoted to the methodology of legal and interdisciplinary research and is also home to the Tilburg School of Politics and Public Administration.

It is against this background that Tilburg has turned towards the study and teaching of law in a global perspective.

The concept of ‘Global Law’ draws together all these strands – international, comparative, interdisciplinary, theory & practice – in an attempt to address the challenges of globalisation from a legal perspective. Since 2010, Global Law has been at the heart of Tilburg Law School’s strategy in research and education.
