25th anniversary Centerdata: Interview with Arie Kapteyn and Marcel Das

Since 1997, this independent non-profit research institute, established on the Tilburg University campus, has provided input for answers to research questions in the field of the Humanities and Social Sciences. Tilburg University to launch multidisciplinary expertise center on support for EU policy
16th December 2021Tilburg University will set up a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence for European Values (CoEV) to more fully understand popular support for EU policy. Research, educational, and public events will be developed regarding six political domains, such as the new green deal, the digital society, and protecting democracy.

Extroverted and conscientious employees most 'burdened' by working from home
12th October 2021Prolonged working from home during the corona pandemic has led to less productivity and less happiness at work among employees who score high on the personality traits extroversion and conscientiousness. People who scored low on these characteristics actually improved their work performance over the same period.

Budget Memorandum: “Major crises require major investments and long-term policy”

Tilburg scientists Wim Dubbink, Toine Spapens, Quita Muis, Inge Sieben, and Tim Reeskens were critical about the plans. Narcissists' behavior is driven by the pursuit of social status
26th August 2021Narcissists will do anything to gain and maintan a high social status. Even when this goes against the interest of the group. When their desired social status is threatened, narcissists may flinch, blame others or resort to threats and intimidation. In our performance-oriented society the strong focus on status gains or losses can fuel and reinforce narcissistic behavior from childhood, says Stathis Grapsas in his PhD research.

1.1 million funding for research into supervision in organizational networks
21st July 2021Professor of Public Governance Patrick Kenis receives over 1.1 million euro of research funding from the Dutch Research Council (NWO) for research into the renewal of supervision for network organizations. He will conduct this research together with co-applicant dr Jörg Raab (TSB, Organizational Studies).

Staying with a local helps refugee integration
20th May 2021When refugees receive a residence permit, it may take weeks or even months before they are assigned a home. Normally they stay in an asylum accommodation center (AZC) during that time, but it is also possible to move in temporarily with a host family. Staying with a local helps integration, according to Hans van Dijk, Quita Muis (Tilburg U), Lena Knappert (Free U A'dam) and Sophie Alkhaled (Lancaster U) in their publication in the Journal of Immigrant & Refugee Studies.

KNAW honors 6 proposals from pilot fund ‘Science Communication: Appreciated!’
22nd April 2021Six submissions from Tilburg University to the KNAW pilot fund 'Science Communication by Scientists: Appreciated!’ have been awarded. TiSEM, TSB and TLS each have been awarded two proposals. 'Appreciated!' is meant for ongoing science communication projects being carried out by teams of scientists. Each team receives €10,000 and should consist of at least three scientists.

Data science helps to organize care for severe psychiatric patients more efficiently
22nd April 2021The complexity of problems that people with severe psychiatric conditions, such as psychoses, fase, makes the care for these patients difficult to design. Especially combined with long waiting lists and shortages of personnel in menthal healthcare. Routine Outcome Monitoring (ROM) can help to organize mental healthcare more efficiently, is evident Sascha Kwakernaak's docoral research, which she defends on April 30 at Tilburg University.
