Understanding the sociology and psychology of human actions

Department of Sociology

Welcome to the homepage of the department of Sociology. Our department consists of sociologists who are interested in questions of social inequality and social cohesion. For instance, we are studying the relationship between income inequality and home ownership. Another example is our research on theĀ  question whether and how religion is still relevant for the ways in which the Dutch raise their children. Our interest in these issues is, of course, embedded in our courses.

In all of our educational activities, we teach our students to formulate sociologically and societally relevant questions, and, of course, we train them to answer these questions. For instance by using data such as European Values Study or NELLS, which are collected by members of our department.

Using the links on this page, you will find more information about our educational programs and about our research.
