Tilburg University: Fair & Green

Tilburg University is committed to a sustainable society and encourages researchers, teachers, support staff, students, and stakeholders to actively contribute to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

New fair trade coffee and tea on campus

New vending machines for coffee will be installed on the campus starting from week 51. The Douwe Egberts machines will be removed at the same time.

Europe-wide call for tenders

The new provider was chosen after an extensive process involving a Europe-wide call for tenders. Sustainability and price also played a role. Maas International emerged as the best option. Their machines serve freshly ground coffee from the Italian brand Segafredo and tea produced by Lipton.

New vending machines for the personnel

At the start of 2015 all the vending machines on the campus will be removed. During this transitional period one part of the campus will use the new machines and another will use the old ones.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Sustainability was a key factor in the choice of provider. The machines of Maas International are very energy-efficient and all the coffee ingredients are certified fair trade products. In addition, part of the daily servicing of the machines is carried out by people with fewer opportunities on the job market.

More choice and high-quality coffee

The new vending machines are top-quality.

  • The coffee beans are not ground until the user has made his choice. The preparation time is slightly longer because of this, but the quality of the coffee is better.
  • As nothing varies more than taste, you can also choose the strength you prefer. After you have made your choice you decide, simply and quickly, on the strength of all the ingredients.
  • Part of the selection procedure involved a tasting and user test by university personnel. Maas International came first with a score of 7.4.
