Human Rights Award 2014

Since 1995, Tilburg University has awarded prizes for academic publications on human rights to draw attention to this field of study in academic teaching and research. In 2002, the Award was named after Max van der Stoel, former Dutch Cabinet minister, former UN High Commissioner on National Minorities and UN Rapporteur on human rights in Iraq.

On December 9, 2014, Dr. Koen Becking, the President of the Tilburg University Executive Board, held a speech on human rights on the occasion of the presentation of the Max van der Stoel Human Rights Award. He argued in favor of the responsibility of universities to develop a human rights policy for use within their own organization.
