Lacrosse is a team sport involving teams of 10 players (men's lacrosse), 12 players (women's lacrosse) or 6 players (box lacrosse). Each player carries a stick (crosse) with a net at the end, in which he/she holds the ball. The objective of the game is to shoot the ball into the opponent's goal using the stick, whereby each goal scored counts as one point. Defensively, the ball may be snatched away through tactical play, stick checks (hitting the stick) and physical contact such as body checks. Women's lacrosse is a non-contact sport. The lacrosse ball is a hard rubber ball weighing between 142 and 149 grams, comparable in size to a tennis ball. The sport is a mixture of basketball, rugby, hurling, ice hockey and hockey.

Lacrosse in the Netherlands

Recently lacrosse has seen a spectacular rise in popularity in the Netherlands, and for some years there have been fully-fledged leagues for both men and women. At the moment there are 19 clubs in the Netherlands, while more are being set up. The autumn season runs from mid-October to mid-December and the 'real' league from March to June. Matches are always played on Sundays, at various locations in the Netherlands.

The Tilburg Titans & Titanides

At present, the Tilburg Lacrosse Club consists of one fully-fledged men's team and one fully-fledged women's team, with second men's and women's teams being set up. In addition, the Tilburg Lacrosse Club is in the process of setting up a youth division. The Club is characterized by a combination of top sport and sociability. Lacrosse is still in its infancy in the Netherlands, but this has made the Club into a close-knit, hard-working organization. The aspirations of the Tilburg Titans and Titanides encompass team BBQs and excursions to other tournaments as well as intensive training and good matches. In addition, the Club offers numerous ways in which you can make a difference, for instance by sitting on the Board, helping organize game days or tournaments, or setting up box lacrosse and youth lacrosse in Tilburg.
