Politicians don’t win elections by merely talking about important issues. There are all kinds of rhetorical tricks that they use to manipulate their constituency: the so-called dark art of voter manipulation. It works because most of us are not aware that it is happening. Some of the techniques that are frequently used are illustrated with examples from the United States (Trump, Obama, Clinton) and the Netherlands.
