RE: Set - a circular dance solo inspired by migration

This dance perfomance is about the loneliness, the dissociation and the joy of being a stranger. About shifting between different places, different realities and different modes of existing. From fully immersed to distantly observing. Transformation through repetition. This solo is an anxious attempt to avoid sensory numbness, and a reminder to play. 

Performer 

Dancer and choreographer Ilja Geelen graduated in 2019 from ArtEZ University of the Arts followed by a Master of Cultural Anthropology in 2021. She decided to put academia on hold but keep her research skills as an artistic tool in her creative processes. She continued to choreograph and perform solos as well as interdisciplinary collaborations (film, circus), most of them in Morocco where she lived on-and-off for two years. Ilja has an aptitude for words and strives to build bridges between different disciplines and cultures. The research phase is her favorite part of any creation. She attaches great value to playfulness, imagination and a critical stance towards established rules and codes. 

After her solo, there is room for a short Q&A with Ilja.
