European Values Study Team Tilburg successful in grant acquisitions

Published: 15th January 2024 Last updated: 18th January 2024

The European Values Study Team Tilburg (Department of Sociology, TSB) has recently secured multiple grants to collect and make comparative social science survey data widely available for the scientific community as well as for policymakers, education, and the general public.

The European Values Study (EVS) is at the core of a new €9.75m Horizon Europe project Infra4NextGen (coordinated by ESS ERIC) funded by the European Commission to bring together data and outputs from existing social science research infrastructures to inform the NextGenerationEU recovery plan and European Union youth policy, focusing on five key areas: Make it Green; Make it Digital; Make it Healthy; Make it Strong; and Make it Equal

Starting in March 2024, this four-year project includes compiling and analysing existing social survey data as well as collecting new data. In addition, the EVS Team Tilburg will develop interactive E-NextGen tools to visualize the data and outputs. These tools will build on and extend the interactive tools and materials developed in the very successful Erasmus+ project European Values in Education (EVALUE, coordinated by Inge Sieben).

The EVALUE tools will also be expanded with new didactical materials to be developed in the recently (October 15) started Erasmus+ project Teaching Controversial Issues (coordinated by Fontys University of Applied Sciences). In this project, EVS Team Tilburg will contribute to tools for teaching complex social issues in diverse and challenging classrooms.

Tim Reeskens was appointed as National Coordinator European Social Survey for the Netherlands (starting in 2024). This means that EVS Team Tilburg will be responsible for three major social science survey data collections in our country: European Values Study (EVS), International Social Survey Programme (ISSP), and European Social Survey (ESS).

About European Values Study

The European Values Study is a cross-national, repeated cross-sectional survey research programme on basic human values. It provides insights into the ideas, beliefs, preferences, attitudes, values and opinions of citizens all over Europe and has had a strong link with Tilburg University since its first round of data collection in 1981 onwards.
