Tilburg student better prepared for future through new educational approach

Published: 26th June 2015 Last updated: 30th April 2019

More small-scale education, more flexibility, and more personal coaching
Tilburg University’s new education profile reflects the need for more attention for and appreciation of education. In years to come, students at Tilburg University will develop the knowledge and skills required by modern-day society: through education that breaks the mold of lectures-and-seminars and through more small-scale education, offering more flexibility in the curriculum to accommodate a semester abroad or at a different School or university and building an e-portfolio with a view to the labor market.

Education has been undervalued in the past few years as a result of the emphasis on research. Tilburg University is refocusing on the importance of education. With the new profile in hand, Tilburg University strives to enable students to achieve a broad and high-quality knowledge base that sets them apart from university of applied sciences graduates. Students develop into self-reliant, independent thinkers and are trained to combine a high level of knowledge in their field and cooperation with people from other disciplines and other cultures.

The most important aspects:

Tilburg students

  • form part of a small peer group in which they will be coached and supervised for the duration of their entire program by a fixed educational team;
  • take courses in flexible classes, free from the constraints of the fixed format of 13 lectures;
  • have personal contact not only with other students but also with the teachers and the educational team;
  • can choose to spend one semester for a minor abroad (international specialization), a minor at one of the other Schools or at a different university (multidisciplinary specialization), or an internship (professional specialization);
  • are trained in such 21st century skills as cooperation, a methodical and problem-solving approach to work, and the application of ICT in the learning process;
  • enter the labor market with an e-portfolio containing their development profile.
