Steffen Pauws appointed to chair of Data Science, eHealth and Communication

PRESS RELEASE 24/02/2016 - Dr. Steffen Pauws has been appointed to the endowed chair of Data Science, eHealth and Communication at the Tilburg School of Humanities. This chair and the corresponding research in the field of effective use of data and information technology in health care is made possible by Philips Research.

The chair is part of the department of Communication and Information Sciences. Pauws will be working closely together with the Tilburg Center for Cognition and Communication (TICC).

The objective of the chair is to study the effective use of available data in health care in order to increase the effectiveness of, among other things, telehealth care and other systems that make use of data. Research will be aimed at establishing the best possible way for care providers to use this abundance of data in patient assessment, in therapy, and in possible interventions. Beside this, the research will also be aimed at finding out how patients can best make use of data and information to improve self-care behavior.

Steffen Pauws works for Philips Research in Eindhoven. He studied Medical Informatics at Leiden University, and got his PhD at the Eindhoven University of Technology. Steffen Pauws has represented Philips Research in various European cooperation projects and has published widely in the field of data science and telehealth. He has also compiled an extensive patient portfolio in this field for Philips.
