PERSBERICHT 11 March 2019 - Tilburg University has appointed dr. Arjan Lejour as Professor of Taxation and Public Finance at the Department of Tax Economics of the Tilburg School of Economics and Management (TiSEM), effective March 1, 2019.

Lejour’s research concentrates on the economic effects of corporate taxation. He is studying income tax from an international perspective, among other things, looking at differences between tax burdens in countries and possible effects on the business climate. In this context, he also focuses on tax avoidance by multinationals. His research interests also include the tax burden of small enterprises subject to corporate income tax or personal income tax. In all cases, he is interested in empirically interpreting the behavior of enterprises. What role do tax legislation and aspects of that legislation (certain deductions) play in decisions taken by companies? In this way, he wants to build a bridge between the empirical economics approach and the often more casuistic approach adopted in fiscal economic

Lejour teaches the Bachelor’s course of Public Finance for Tax Economists and lectures on International Business Taxation for Economists in the Master’s phase.

Arjan Lejour is affiliated to the Fiscal Institute (FIT), a collaboration between TiSEM’s Department of Tax Economics and the Department of Tax Law of Tilburg Law School (TLS) at Tilburg University. He combines his part-time appointment at Tilburg University with a position as a program manager at the Public Finance sector of the CPBNetherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis. In 1995, he obtained a PhD at Tilburg University based on research into the effects of European integration on social security systems.
