Opening of the Academic Year with Finance Minister Jeroen Dijsselbloem

PRESS RELEASE 30 August 2016 - Finance Minister and Eurogroup President Jeroen Dijsselbloem is keynote speaker at the opening of the Academic year 2016-2017 at Tilburg University on Monday September 5th. The theme of this year’s Opening Ceremony is: ‘How to survive without the internet; toward a digital society where people matter.’

President of the Executive Board Koen Becking will present his vision of thoroughgoing cooperation between knowledge institutions in the south of the Netherlands. Rector Magnificus Emile Aarts wil hand out the first edition of the Best Entrepreneurial Student Initiative Award.

Rector Magnificus Emile Aarts will open the ceremony, which starts at 16:00 hrs.

In his speech, Minister Dijsselbloem will be addressing the importance of equal opportunities in society. After this, three promising young student-entrepreneurs will compete for the Award for Best Entrepreneurial Student Initiative. The companies nominated for the award are: DUODEKA, JAMWerkt, and Scribbr. The battle will be introduced by Erik de Bruijn, alumnus of Tilburg University and co-founder of the successful, innovative company Ultimaker. Ultimaker develops open-source 3D printers and tools, with the ultimate goal of facilitating a new world.

Prior to the Opening Ceremony, Tilburg University and the University of Liberia will sign an extension of the Cooperation Agreement for the exchange of knowledge. After the Opening Ceremony there will be a reception in the foyer around 17:30 hrs.
