Admission requirements

To be admitted to a Bachelor's program at Tilburg University, you will need to meet several different requirements:

  1. Diploma requirements
  2. English language requirements
  3. Mathematics requirements - not applicable for BA Liberal Arts and Sciences

* The exact value of your diploma may also depend on such factors as the institution from which it was obtained or the contents of your study programme.


English language requirements
If the Bachelor’s program is taught in English, a good verbal and written command of that language is essential. Therefore all applicants must provide an English proficiency test. The minimum requirements are:

  • Academic IELTS test with an average minimum score of 6.0 and a minimum score of 5.5 on each of the parts.
  • TOEFL test score with a minimum score of 550 for the paper based version, 213 for the computer based version, or 80 for the Internet based version. The TOEFL Institutional code for Tilburg University is 9860.
  • Cambridge Proficiency or Cambridge Advanced (grade C).

The certificates have to be recent: not older than two years.

However, an English proficiency test is NOT required if:

  • you are a citizen of, or have obtained your secondary school diploma in one of the following countries: Australia, Canada (with the exception of Quebec), New Zealand, United Kingdom, Ireland or the United States of America.
  • you have completed your secondary school education (VWO) in the Netherlands.


Mathematics requirements
To be admitted to a Bachelor's program at Tilburg University you must have a sufficient level of Mathematics. The requirements can be found in the table below.

NOTE: The mathematics requirements apply for our Bachelor programs in International Business Administration, Economics, and Econometrics and Operations Research. For applications for the Bachelor programs offered by the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences, successful applicants may be required to follow a mathematics course in the first semester, if they do not meet our requirements.
The requirements do NOT apply for the Bachelor program in Liberal Arts and Sciences.
