Why Econometrics and Operations Research

In Econometrics and Operations Research (EOR), education focuses on learning to formulate mathematical and statistical models in relation to the most challenging problems in economics and business, as well as using and applying these models to actualise effective solutions.

What is econometrics? 'Eco' in 'econometrics' pertains to the field of economics. 'Metrics' stands literally for 'measuring'.
This means, econometrics is essentially a quantitative program, fundamentally scientific in nature, but with real-world application integrated. If you are good at mathematics and statistics, and thrive on solving real problems by thinking analytically and logically, you will excel in this program.

The curriculum of the Econometrics and Operations Research program is partially determined by the disciplines that are related to this field and in which Tilburg University has acquired a strong expertise: quantitative finance, operations research, quantitative logistics, mathematical economics and econometric methods. These fields are also represented in the three MSc programs that are based on the Econometrics & OR program, namely:

  • Mathematical Economics and Econometric Methods
  • Operations Research and Management Science
  • Quantitative Finance and Actuarial Sciences
