Study association Extra Muros
Extra Muros is the study association for Tilburg University’s Liberal Arts and Sciences students. All Liberal Arts and Sciences students – whether they are first, second or third-year students – can join Extra Muros. What does Extra Muros have to offer you?

The Last Lecture Series Not-to-be-missed, ‘Last Lectures’ offer Tilburg University professors the chance to take the stage with the “wisdom they would try to impart to the world if they knew it was their last chance”. Study trip
It might be Istanbul (this year’s trip) or even India, but every year LAS students get the chance to go on a fascinating and fun study trip that enriches their learning, thanks to the Extra Muros Trip Committee.

Honours program
For students interested in an even greater intellectual challenge, or the chance to broaden their scientific knowledge, you have the opportunity to take part in a href="/students/broaden/honorsprogram/" target="_blank">Honours Programme. This is a supplementary programme consisting of eight courses (four of which can be chosen by the participant) and which leads to a Tilburg University Honours Certificate in addition to your Bachelor's degree qualification.
Outreaching program
Demonstrate your motivation, ambition, and sense of social responsibility with the Outreaching Programme - an opportunity for students to make a real contribution to society while expanding their own career prospects.
Outreaching is a two-year university-wide, supplemental Bachelor’s programme that helps to develop sustainable leadership and personal skills. Master classes with industry professionals, lab sessions supervised by notable professors, internships and team activities including a study trip are just part of what you can expect from this programme.
Aimed at ambitious students who want to be challenged by key societal issues, the Outreaching Programme challenges you to:
- Apply scientific knowledge to social issues and themes.
- Acquire international experience.
- Prepare for social engagement.
Excellence scholarship
To qualify for an Excellence Scholarship you must have obtained a complete Bachelor's degree (without exemptions) within three years and with an average result of exactly 8 (out of 10) over 180 compulsory credits.
If you have an acknowledged study delay or a delay because of an active membership of the management of a student organisation or management participation, this will be taken into account during the application process.
The Excellence Scholarship is a grant of ¤2,500 plus a maximum of ¤5,000 in the case of a Master's programme abroad (dependent on the fee abroad). The scholarship must be used for a Master's programme abroad or a Research Master’s at Tilburg University.
Dante Award
To stimulate internationalization, the Faculty of Humanities gives two so-called Dante Awards of ¤ 800 each for the best travel plans for a studying activity abroad. Every semester, there is an award for the best travel plan involving teaching activities, research activities or a combination of the two.
Language vouchers & exchange opportunities
Every LAS student receives free language course vouchers worth a total of 12 ECTS. These vouchers allow you to attend language courses at the Language Center - for example, two language courses worth 6 ECTS each. Courses include Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese, German, French, English, Dutch, and Dutch for foreigners.
Your ability to speak another language will be invaluable on an international exchange semester - not to mention in any future career.
Entrepreneurship
If you aspire to start your own company either now or in the future, Tilburg University offers you a ton of ways to advance your entrepreneurial skills and ambitions. There’s relevant and specific courses; access to Starterslift, an organisation that functions exclusively to help start-ups bring their products or services to market; the chance to rent an office via the Entrepreneur Centre; and even an Academic Business Club where you can exchange experiences and best practices with fellow student entrepreneurs.
Student participation in decision-making
There are so many ways for you to get involved in student life at Tilburg University, with clubs catering to every possible interest. Tilburg is home to every kind of society and association: student associations, unions, arts and culture clubs, sports clubs, student politics or philosophical societies, umbrella organisations, associations with specific objectives such as social services or book purchases.

Courses & workshops
If there is a subject or skill worth learning, you can probably learn it at Tilburg. The Student Service Centre offers courses and workshops in areas ranging from ‘How to find a job in the Netherlands’ (workshop for non-EU international students) to dance workshops and time management workshops.
Cultural courses, symposia & debates
Dance, guitar classes or social debates, the Studium Generale brings high cultural to campus with courses for Tilburg University students, alumni, employees and others.

While it is important to note that Tilburg University does NOT assist students in finding part-time jobs, students seeking part-time work could find the following information useful. Please note: the number of jobs open to non-Dutch speaking students is limited.
