Zhasmina took the major Law in Europe

"I was in a highly motivated academic environment and that helped me tremendously in terms of my personal and professional development. Learning to think critically motivated me to discover something new every day in order to improve myself."

My name is Zhasmina Kostadinova and I am from Bulgaria. A few years ago, I was faced with the choice of my further education and I wanted something other than studying in my home town. I was looking for a challenge. A foreign study experience was high on my wish list.

After some searching, I found the program in Liberal Arts and Sciences at Tilburg University. When I had made my final choice, the first step to take was the application for this program. The selection process consists of a number of steps. I had to write a motivation letter and an essay. When I sent my application package, I was invited to an interview.

After having completed the selection process successfully, I only had to pass my secondary education before being admitted to the academic year 2012/2013. With some tension but also a lot of enthusiasm, I accepted the challenge and moved to Tilburg.

Special people

The program in Liberal Arts and Sciences has brought me so much more than I could have ever imagined. The large dose of academic knowledge and practical skills is priceless. I was in a highly motivated academic environment and that helped me a lot in terms of my personal and professional development. Learning to think critically motivated me to discover something new every day and to constantly improve myself. I met special people, some of whom are now good friends. This academic environment fascinated me and I found it rewarding to study. Fortunately, I had enough time for extra curricular activities besides my study. I was active in different international student associations and also worked alongside my studies.

Discover talents

During the first year of the program, you lay the foundation for all four majors. This gave me the opportunity to explore my talents in all directions before I specialized in the discipline where my heart lies. I chose the major ‘Law in Europe’. This direction gave me the opportunity to develop myself more in the field of law. However, besides your specialization, you also get the opportunity to delve into other disciplines. Since I have a passion for technology, I took some courses on the legal side of technology and how it affects our society.

The same person

Looking back at the past years as a student, there are many things which have been changed, but I am still the same person. Not everything is easy, but the difficult moments remind me to appreciate everything around me.
