MSc specialization Data Science: Business and Governance

Data Science: Business and Governance, track of the Master's program in Communication and Information Sciences, trains you to become a Data Scientist that can address questions like:

  • How do we deal with large amounts of data available?
  • What techniques do we use to mine the data?
  • What are the legal and ethical aspects regarding these data sets?
  • And what economic value can be found in these Big Data?

Program of the Master's track Data Science: Business and Governance

The compulsory courses are:

  • Analytics for Business & Governance - Teaches the economic aspects of Data Science.
  • Data Science Regulation & Law - Teaches the legal aspects of Data Science.
  • Machine Learning - Apply relatively simple algorithms on tasks regarding Machine Learning and Data Mining.
  • Social Data Mining - A broad and accessible introduction to Data Science which teaches research skills in data mining and pattern recognition.
  • Data Processing - Learn the basics of the computer language Python, which is suitable for quickly creating short programs to process texts and data sets.
  • Statistical Programming with R - Learn the basics of the programming language R to conduct a number of analyses, such as exploratory data analysis, data visualisation, and linear regression analysis.

2 elective courses allow you to further specialize in the economic and management, legal or methodological aspects of Data Science. In Data Challenges you will work on real world cases under the guidance of lecturers from four different schools, bringing together everything you learned so far.
