"I greatly enjoyed the Master’s program in Econometrics and Mathematical Economics. I felt I learned a lot from the courses taught, and most of them were very interesting. I also felt that most teachers and students were enthusiastic and easy to approach, which stimulated the good atmosphere."

Ineke Bijlsma about her Master:

Educational background

I took a Bachelor's program of Mathematics at Utrecht University. As practical mathematics appealed to me, I took some econometrics courses and decided I'd like to continue in that direction with my Master’s program. For that reason, I chose the Master’s program in Econometrics and Mathematical Economics here in Tilburg.

Why Tilburg University?

I noticed the courses I liked most were a prerequisite for being admitted to this Master’s program, so I decided to get more information and visit the open day. The material shown there, combined with a beautiful campus and accessibility by train, won me over to study here

Master of Econometrics and Mathematical Economics

I took the more mathematical courses of the program. Most courses treated models inspired by economic theory and try to solve those using mathematical methods. I liked the fact that, in these courses, practical problems were discussed which you would not normally come across in more theoretical mathematics, such as robustness and decisions under imperfect information.

Tilburg University Campus

The university campus is very nice. It's about a five-minute walk from the train station. The buildings and facilities are close together and the library has many computers for both individual use and for groups. However, what I like most is how nice it is during the summer. You can just sit on a bench, open a book, and relax.

The Future

Once I'm done with my Master’s thesis, I am going to try to obtain a traineeship. In that way, I can both build up relevant working experience and hopefully stay with the company after the traineeship.
