Thank you very much for considering the LLM European Union Law. On this page you will find all relevant information in order to apply to this program.

Follow the application procedure below:

  • If you have a non-Dutch nationality OR
  • If you have Dutch nationality and are applying for this program on the basis of a diploma awarded by an institution outside the Netherlands.

Please note

Applicants with a Dutch nationality AND a diploma from a Dutch university will need to follow the national admission procedure.

a) Check your eligibility

Admission requirements

Before applying, please make sure that you meet the following admission requirements:

1. Educational background/diplomas

  • You have a Bachelor's degree in Law or European Studies before the start of this Master's program.

2. English language proficiency

  • You have an adequate knowledge of English before the start of this Master's program. In order to prove your English proficiency you need to take (or have taken) one of the following tests:
    • Academic IELTS (minimum score 6.5 overall, minimum score of 6.0 on individual parts);
    • TOEFL (minimum score of 90 for the internet based test, TOEFL institutional code of Tilburg University is 9860);
    • Cambridge Proficiency Examination (CPE, score A, B or C) or Cambridge Advanced English (CAE, score A, B or C).

You are exempt for the English proficiency test if:

  1. You are a native English speaker, i.e. if you are a citizen of one of the following countries: Australia, Canada (with exception of Quebec), Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom and United States of America;
  2. You completed all your secondary education in English. This only applies to scholars from the following countries: Australia, Canada (with exception of Quebec), Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom and United States of America;
  3. You completed all your university education in English. This only applies to scholars from the following countries: Australia, Canada (with exception of Quebec), Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom and United States of America.

b) Consider the deadlines

Please ensure that you submit your application in good time, even if you have not yet made up your mind whether you want to do the program or not. That way you will receive the admission documents with plenty of time to spare.

c) Follow the application procedure

Step 1: Prepare your application package

In order to prepare your application, you will need a digital version of the following documents:

Required documents:

  • Your diploma(s) and transcript(s).
    • If you have not obtained your diploma yet (but you will obtain it before the start of the program), please upload a certified copy of your most recent transcript + a list of courses you still need to finish.
    • If your diploma(s) and transcript(s) are not in English language, you will need to provide a sworn translation into English of these documents.
  • Your English proficiency test: an academic IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge Proficiency Examination or Cambridge Advanced English certificate.
  • A letter of motivation (free format).
  • Your Curriculum Vitae.
  • A photocopy of a valid passport (your passport should be valid at least until the end of the Master's program) or ID-card (only for EEA/EU students).

Additional documents in specific situations:

  • For Chinese applicants only: Nuffic Certificate (formerly known as NESO Certificate). For information how to obtain a Nuffic Certificate, please visit the website of NESO China.

Step 2: Apply in the online application system (MySAS)

Stage 1

Create an online application account. After you have created this account, the online application system (MySAS) will send you an email asking you to activate your account.

Stage 2

Once you have activated your account, you may return to MySAS and start your actual online application.

  • Step 1) Fill out personal details (name, date of birth, nationality, etc.)
  • Step 2) Fill out address details (where you live, emergency contact address)
  • Step 3) Proposed program (the program you are applying for)
  • Step 4) Language and other tests (your proficiency in English and if applicable other tests)
  • Step 5) Educational background (your previous education, schools attended)
  • Step 6) Supporting documents (required documents needed to apply)
  • Step 7) Additional documents (other optional supporting documents, not obligatory)
  • Step 8) Survey (how did you learn about Tilburg University?)
  • Step 9) Review (double check that you have completed steps 1 to 8)
  • Step 10) Submit (you will be able to submit your application after steps 1 to 8 have been completed)

Step 3: Admission Committee's decision

The Admission Committee needs a maximum of four weeks to come to a decision. There are three decisions possible:

  • Unconditional admission to the Master's program (you can start the Master's program at the next intake);
  • Conditional admission to the Master's program (you still need to upload your diploma and/or proof of English proficiency to start the program at the next intake);
  • Rejection of your application (you do not meet the requirements to start the Master's program).

Step 4: Enroll via Studielink

Please bear in mind that you must also enroll via Studielink before the deadline. Please read the relevant information regarding your Studielink enrollment and registration on the webpage of Studielink.

Step 5: Confirm your enrollment

After your registration in Studielink, you will be notified by Tilburg University and need to confirm this registration before you can start with the program.

Practical information

After being admitted to one of our programs at Tilburg University, a number of arrangements (visa, housing, insurance etc.) must be made before your arrival.
