“The program gave me exactly what I was looking for: a better understanding of information and the technology used to process it. Furthermore, the job opportunities after this Master’s program are excellent. Every company is looking for people with experience in both business and IT."

Carlijn Frins about her Master:

What is your educational background?

After finishing my secondary school (VWO), I started with the Bachelor of Economics & Informatics at Tilburg University. This Bachelor’s program is designed as the basis for the Master of Information Management. Since 2013, the Bachelor of Economics & Informatics is no longer offered. Within the Bachelor programs Business Economics and International Business Administration it is possible to do Information Management as a minor.

Why did you choose Tilburg University?

Tilburg University has a relatively compact campus. When I visited this campus for the first time, I immediately felt at home. I also chose Tilburg University because of the study program. A 50/50 program between business and information technology is offered, creating an excellent bridge between those two disciplines. The program does not overemphasize either business or IT but offers a perfect mix between the two.

After finishing my Bachelor, the Master of Information Management was the logical next step. Furthermore, I wanted to learn more about the interaction between business and information technology.

What is special about the program?

The program is often visualized as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, connecting two very different worlds. The program showed me how I might act like such a bridge between business and IT. You avoid the technicalities and still get some insight into the functioning and positioning of IT within an organization. However, you can also choose a much more technical track in this Master.

The Tilburg University campus is really nice because it is compact. The facilities provided are also good. A combination of space for independent study, places for doing group assignments, and catering facilities provide you with all the necessities to complete your course work on campus.

What are your experiences with the program and Tilburg University so far?

The program gave me exactly what I was looking for: a better understanding of information and the technology used to process it. Furthermore, the job opportunities after this Master’s program are excellent. Every company is looking for people with experience in both business and IT. Besides the study programs, Tilburg University also offers a lot of opportunities to become active in an association. This is a good way to gain some additional skills. We made a study trip to Hong Kong with 25 students from student association Asset | SBIT. Organizing the trip was very educational, but more importantly, it was a lot of fun.

What do you think of Tilburg city?

Tilburg is an excellent city to live in as a student. New student accommodation has been built. Everyone can get a room very quickly and for a good price. In comparison with other cities, the bars in Tilburg are crowded every day. Bars also offer special activities for students.
