Can you describe what your current position involves?

Baker Hughes is a top tier oilfield service company, which provides multiple products and services to the oil and gas industry. In my position I am responsible for planning and analysis of one of the company´s business segments and provide advice on how to improve the company´s performance on the market. I work closely with operations and marketing management to track revenues by customer, profitability, capital expenditure and cash flow, mainly by receivables and inventories tracking. I am also involved in all of the financial issues that concern the product lines of the segment, give support to non-financial team members and participate in AFE [authorization for expenditure] creation, contract reviewing and tender preparation.

How did you get in touch with this company?

I got in touch with Baker Hughes through a friend who worked at this company.

What was the defining moment in your study?

The defining moment of my study was my internship and writing my master thesis at Philips. It was a great experience since I was able to tackle a particular business situation contributing to improve the performance of a worldwide leading company. Besides being able to apply knowledge and skills learned I was able to enhance my communication abilities and interact with different parts of the organization and with people with diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.

How do you use the knowledge gained at Tilburg University in your job?

The knowledge I apply most is what I learned in my financial courses, mainly in International Finance and International Financial Reporting and Analysis. The master in International Management offers a broad variety in courses and the other classes taken are of great value for being able to contribute to strategic and managerial discussions.

Does your current job meet the expectations you had as a student?

As a student I expected to work in an industry that has a major impact on the economy and where I would be given the opportunity to constantly learn new things. My current job certainly meets my expectations.

What has surprised you about you master program?

The amount of international students participating in the program makes Tilburg University a very diverse and international university. The quality of some of the lectures is definitely a big plus, some professors have a recognized experience, both academic as well as managerial.

Did you participate in extracurricular activities and if so, how did this contribute to your personal development?

I was part of the Educational Committee for the master programs, as a representative of the Msc International Management. Being one of the few non-Dutch students in this committee I was able to propose and contribute a lot of alternatives which could improve the quality of the programs offered by Tilburg University from the perspective of a foreign student. It was an interesting experience.

What is your ambition? What would like to have achieved in 2020?

I want to develop projects and initiatives with international impact in the future. For example taking part in projects that involve internationalization of companies, entrance to new markets and enhancement of an international organization´s performance in the marketplace.

What or who gives you inspiration and why?

My family is definitely a big inspiration and constant motivation for pursuing my goals. The support that they have given to me is a reason for giving my best in all the activities I engage in. I also have a big self-motivation to meet and exceed my objectives. When I set a goal I do my best to reach it.
