What is your educational background?

I was born in Zimbabwe but lived in South Africa from the age of 5. I completed my LLB at the University of Cape Town in Cape Town, South Africa.

What was the reason to choose your specific Master’s program?

I was particularly interested in the intersection between law and information technology. Only around 20 Master’s programs are offered throughout the world in this highly specialized field. I saw Tilburg University as the perfect place for me to continue my education because of this program and because of Tilburg’s location in continental Europe.

What is special about the program?

The program offers insightful perspectives on how law can be used to support responsible innovation. It also makes one aware of the myriad of issues encountered when practicing law in circumstances where technology is involved, and of how technology-related issues become increasingly intertwined with other legal issues as the impact of technology increases. It follows that issues such as privacy, defamation, and contract law must all adapt to the rapid advances in technology throughout the world.

What do you think about Tilburg University campus and facilities?

The facilities are very good. I do most of my work, including research, digitally. So it’s good to know that the internal computer network at Tilburg is well facilitated.

Another great thing is that everything stays clean. I have always appreciated campuses that look great and remain pristine throughout the year.

What has your experience of the program and Tilburg University been so far?

I’m thoroughly engaged in the course work. I genuinely find the content of my study interesting and useful. And currently I am in an internship. It is an EU funded research project that focuses on cloud computing law. It’s gratifying that my knowledge can be put to good use. And I am only half way through the course, so there’s more to come in my next semester!

What do you think of Tilburg as a city?

I love the fact that there are many student centered activities. I found it very easy to integrate with Dutch students and students from abroad because it feels like many places around the city cater to the student population and host activities and nightlife directly geared towards students.
