In the spring, almost all students in higher education in the Netherlands are approached to take part in the National Student Survey (NSE). The survey is funded by the government, carried out by ResearchNed and commissioned by Studiekeuze123, and independent foundation that helps students make the right choice of degree program.

Elsevier makes its own selection from the range of degree programs and the questionnaire, using the data processed by ResearchNed. In addition to Bachelor’s programs at universities and universities of applied sciences, Master’s programs and university colleges are also compared. A program only receives an evaluation if enough of its students complete the questionnaire. The teaching format and student population must also be comparable to other programs
