level A1-plus
Course information
Participants acquire a basic communicative competence in Dutch. This emphasis on communication means that studying and learning grammar is a means and not a goal in itself. A teaching method designed for highly educated language learners is used. In order to stimulate the learning process, this basic material will be enriched by materials from other sources. The goal is to bring the language skills of the students to a level which is necessary to be able to communicate in everyday situations and to function in everyday Dutch life. The grammar and vocabulary taught in this course are therefore related to everyday situations including shopping, getting medical help, travelling, work, and topics of general interest. Basic reading and writing skills in Dutch will also be developed.
The course involves making use of a large number of online tools for which the Tilburg University Language Center has developed the Dutch Tool Box. This includes reading modules, vocabulary, grammar, listening, etc. Time will be reserved for independent study in those areas students feel they need more practice.
