We offer you intensive academic summer courses (ECTS Accredited) combined with cultural and social activities.

Spanish Beginners Summer Course

  • Course period: 16 July - 27 July 2012
  • Course load: 4 ECTS
  • Max participants: 18
  • Course leader: Drs. C. (Cristina) Irún Chavarría
  • Target group: Beginners. Students preparing for an exchange program.
  • Schedule: One 2-hour morning class and one 2-hour afternoon class. In between lessons you work on your homework and assignments.

Course aims
After the Spanish Beginners Summer Course you:

  • will understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment).
  • can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.
  • can describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.
After this course, you will be able to take the Spanish Intermediate Summer Course or the semester course Spanish Intermediate Course.

Course information
The Spanish Summer Program consists of 2 two-week courses: Spanish Beginners Summer Course and Spanish Intermediate Summer Course. The courses are based on a communicative approach using task-oriented exercises. All communicative skills will be developed at different levels throughout the program. The focus is on vocabulary, basic grammar, and cultural information of the Hispanic world.

Assessment and Grading

    The final grade consists of:
  • Written exam: 50 points
  • Listening exam: 25 points
  • Oral exam: 25 points
    To pass the course, students need to:
  • Obtain a minimum of 60 points in total
  • Obtain a minimum of 30 points on the written exam

Important information

  • Attendance: 80% attendance is required.
  • Target level: A2
  • It is possible to follow the Spanish Intermediate Summer Course after this course if you have participated actively in this course. In this case you will only take an exam at the end of the Spanish Intermediate Summer Course. Otherwise you will take an exam in order to demonstrate that you have achieved A2 level.
  • In the event of an insufficient number of participants, the Language Center reserves the right to cancel the course.

Costs
  • Tilburg University students 'pay' with 6 language vouchers. If you do not have enough vouchers, you pay €57 per language voucher.
  • Prospective Tilburg University students who register from September 2012 pay €426 and can use their language vouchers to get a refund of €342.
  • Tilburg University members of staff: pay €360.
  • External participants pay €426.
  • Alumni who graduate less than four years ago, can participate in this course at the internal rate of €360.
