Campaign 2016

From February 15 until March 5 2016, Tilburg School of Economics and Management conducted its annual phone campaign. Students informed alumni on the activities organized in the upcoming year and discussed how you can be involved with realizing important projects of your school. This year too alumni spoke with great enthusiasm about their student days. It is wonderful to know that so many alumni have warm feelings about their Alma Mater. Besides contributions, for example through offering internships and joining the  Mentor Program, alumni donated almost €90,000 for various projects! These contributions will be received over a period of 3 years.

The TiSEM Alumni Committee has selected various projects for which funds will be used. The projects can be found below:

Scholarships international students (EUR 30,000)

Nowadays, few fundamental questions can be solved within the borders of a country. Internationalization requires the best contacts with foreign institutions and exchange of foreign top talent.

With a scholarship talented foreign students from less developed countries will be able to enroll in a  Master program. This year alumni gave Hoang Nguyen (Vietnam, MSc Finance), Kshitiz Dahal (Nepal, MSc Economics) and Mertcan Akyürek (Turkije, MSc Economics) the opportunity to study at Tilburg School of Economics and Management. With your help they will be able to be of importance to the development of their country, through the knowledge and experience they acquire here. This campaign we hope to acquire funds again, in order to give international students the opportunity to study at Tilburg University. Possibly a Liberian student will be given the opportunity to study here as part of the Professors for Development program.

Innovative education (EUR 12,000)

Alumni know from experience how important motivating and inspiring education can be. Tilburg School of Economics and Management wants to go the extra mile. To create an even bigger value for the society and the student. That is why our students will be taught by leading professors. Research and education are connected. We prepare our students for an (international) career with heavy competition. Thanks to the support of our alumni in previous campaigns, we create programs to teach our students extra skills in order to be well prepared for the labor market and be able to fulfill their part in society.

Innovative research

Innovative research has a high priority as well and we strive to offer our professors additional opportunities to realize their research projects. Koen van den Oever studies the cooperation between water authorities in order to build a theory about under which conditions collaboration is beneficial. Luc Renneboog and Marshall Ma are studying the role of color and emotions at art auctions, contributing to theories in behavioral finance, experimental economics and cultural diversity studies.

Extra-curricular activities (EUR 3,000)

Tilburg School of Economics and Management does not want to educate the most, but the best students. A good student wants to be able to excel in both the academic as the extra-curricular environment. Also philosophizing and thinking about bigger themes like freedom are part of this.

Freedom is a right and certainly not self-evident. 70 years after the Second World War it is still a current topic. Stories of students that have fled their home country or stories of family of war victims have to be passed on and written down. Because, by passing these stories on we can create empathy and awareness. With your help, the Tilburg Cobbenhagen Center can realize a digital monument, where these stories will be collected. As homage, but also as point of knowledge for the regional war history. Students of Tilburg University will contribute actively to the development of the digital monument.

Through contributions of alumni

  • Talented foreign students, from less developed countries, will be able to enroll in a Master’s program at Tilburg School of Economics and Management;
  • Innovative education and research will be developed and supported;
  • Students will able to excel in the extra-curricular environment.
