Professor Dick den Hertog appointed Scientific Director of the Data Science Center Tilburg

PRESS RELEASE, 26 January 2016 – On 1 January 2016, Prof. Dick den Hertog was appointed Scientific Director of the Data Science Center Tilburg (DSC/t).

Den Hertog has been involved in the data science initiative right from the start. In his role as Scientific Director he will survey the possibilities for conducting (multidisciplinary) data science research and stimulate researchers to acquire external funding. In this, Den Hertog will work closely together with the research groups of Tilburg University and the Data Science Center of the Eindhoven University of Technology (DSC/e).

Since 2000 Den Hertog has been affiliated to the Tilburg School of Economics and Management as professor of Operations Research. He studied Mathematics and Information Science at the Delft University of Technology and got his PhD there in Operations Research. From 2006-2010 he was Vice-Dean of Research and Director of the Tilburg University research institute CentER. His research focuses on the theory as well as the applications Business Analytics.

TU/e and Tilburg University join forces in developing data science because of the crucial importance of this field for society and business. That is why they are setting up international programs for PhD students, Master’s students and entrepreneurs. The joint Master’s program will be offered in Den Bosch; a joint Bachelor’s program will be taught in Eindhoven and Tilburg.
