Bram Scholten - student BDM 2016-2017

Student Bram Scholten

"I am very interested in books and marketing. So the perfect match for me would be to manage book campaigns for well-known publish houses and to use my knowledge in marketing and persuasion to create strong marketing strategies."

What Bachelor's program did you finish before starting with the Business Communication and Digital Media track?

I did the Bachelor in Communication and Information Sciences at Tilburg University.

Why did you choose the BDM track?

During my Bachelor I  specialized in Communication Design (CD). However, my interests gradually shifted more towards Business Communication and Digital Media (BDM). When I started to look deeper into the different Master's programs Tilburg University has to offer, I came to the conclusion that the BDM track was a better fit for me than the CD track. I was more interested in the courses about business communication and webcare. Therefore, I chose Business Communication and Digital Media.

How are your experiences with the Master's program so far?

I like that you have a lot of freedom. You can choose the courses you are most interested in and plan those courses the way you want. This enables you to create the perfect study for yourself.

I also like the classroom atmosphere. Since the lectures are quite often interactive, you can easily share what you think of something. The lecturers are very approachable and willing to help.

Which are your favorite courses?

I really like the course Online Public Relations. This course lets you evaluate a crisis that occurred in a company and gives you the task to come up with a better way to handle it. I find it nice that the lectures are very interactive and practical.

Another course I really appreciate is Social Media at Work. In this course the basics of new media are taught. You have to work together with other students, which is a good way to get to know new people.

What are your aspirations for the future?

I am very interested in books and marketing. So the perfect match for me would be to manage book campaigns for well-known publish houses and to use my knowledge in marketing and persuasion to create strong marketing strategies.

Do you have any tips for new students?

Deciding which Master you are going to study can be a hard decision. For me it helped a lot to take a look at the courses that are taught and check if they appeal to you. The courses are a big part of your study, so a “match” between your interests and the courses is a good indication whether you are going to like the program. You can also attend one or more lectures together with a student who is already in the program. That way you get to see what the courses are really about and how the lectures go.
