International Master in Cross-Cultural Economic Psychology

The two-year International Master’s program in Cross-Cultural Economic Psychology is an international Double Degree program offered jointly by University of Osnabrück (Germany) and Tilburg University.

This information is only for Tilburg University students and External students (except students from University of Osnabrück). Information for students from the University of Osnabrück can be found on the website of the University of Osnabrück.


After successful completion of the program you will graduate with two degrees:

  • MSc in Psychology: emphasis Cross-Cultural Psychology, awarded by University of Osnabrück
  • MSc in Social Psychology, awarded by Tilburg University

Courses Double Degree in Cross-Cultural Economic Psychology

Program structure

The Double Degree in Cross-Cultural Economic Psychology is taught at both University of Osnabrück and Tilburg University. It is a two-year program of 120 ECTS. Below you can find an overview of when you will be studying where:

Semester 1: Coursework at Tilburg University 

33 ECTS of the MSc in Social Psychology, with a selection of 1 out of 2 tracks, more specifically:

  1. Track Economic Psychology
  2. Track Work and Organizational Psychology

During this first semester you will follow the courses of unit 1 and 2. The course lists may be subject to change.

**The credits of the additional elective course will not be part of the official 120 ECTS DD program; however, the credits will be added to the transcript of records of the Degree at  University of Osnabrück as an extracurricular course, if completed.

Course lists may be subject to change. Before students start at the host institution a course plan will be approved by both institutions.

Please keep in mind that some lectures will be taught in German.  However, powerpoint sheets, books, articles and exams are in English. In your first semester at Tilburg University you can participate in a German language course for free.  Also, you have a compulsory language course as part of your curriculum in your first semester at University of Osnabrück.


Semester 4: Master’s thesis at Tilburg University

27 ECTS of the MSc program in Social Psychology. The Master’s thesis will be under joint supervision of University of Osnabrück (an University of Osnabrück member may act as an external supervisor).  Dependent on the choice of the colloquium, students might need to complete a 1 ECTS paper at Tilburg, to fulfil the 120 ECTS requirement.

Tuition fees Double Degree Program Cross-Cultural Economic Psychology

Year 1

  • Tilburg University
    Students are registered as Tilburg University degree students (MSc Social Psychology). Students pay Tilburg University tuition fee for the complete year.
  • University of Osnabrück
    Students are registered as University of Osnabrück students in semester 2. Students pay the University of Osnabrück compulsory administration fee. They will receive a scholarship to partly cover the fee for both semesters.

Year 2

  • University of Osnabrück
    Students are registered at University of Osnabrück in semester 1 and 2. Students pay the University of Osnabrück compulsory administration fee in semester 1.
  • Tilburg University
    Students are registered as Tilburg University degree students (MSc Social Psychology). Students pay Tilburg University tuition fee for the complete year.

Admission and application Double Degree Cross-Cultural Economic Psychology

Admission to this program is limited to a maximum of five students per year.

Tilburg University students

Requirements

Tilburg students who continue their education at Tilburg University must:

  • have fulfilled the requirements of the Bachelor program in Psychology with a major in Psychology and Society (Psychologie en Maatschappij);
  • or have been admitted to one of the Master programs for Social Psychology by the Examination Board of Tilburg School of Behavioral and Social Sciences in case the undergraduate degree is in a subject other than psychology - check the admission procedure
  • have demonstrated their English language proficiency (C1 CEFR) by submitting the results of either TOEFL (minimum 577 paper-based / 90 internet-based), IELTS (minimum 6.5 overall, no part less than 6.0), or Cambridge Proficiency or Cambridge Advanced (A-B-C) (or an equivalent Language Center test for TiU students);
  • have a GPA of 7.0;
  • provide two relevant and personalized reference letters: one academic, and one professional, for example through student assistant work, internships or other work experience;
  • have proven their sufficient motivation through a letter and/or selection interview.

Dutch students with a Dutch diploma

Requirements

External students who start the program at Tilburg University must:

  • have been admitted to one of the Master programs for Social Psychology by the Examination Board of Tilburg School of Behavioral and Social Sciences in case the undergraduate degree is in another subject than psychology - check the admission procedure
  • have demonstrated their English language proficiency (C1 CEFR) by submitting the results of either TOEFL (minimum 577 paper-based / 100 internet-based), IELTS (minimum 6.5 overall, no part less than 6.0), or Cambridge Proficiency or Cambridge Advanced (A-B-C) (or an equivalent language center test for TiU students);
  • have a GPA of 7.0;
  • provide two relevant and personalized reference letters: one academic, and one professional, for example through student assistant work, internships or other work experience;
  • have proven their sufficient motivation through a letter and/or selection interview.

International students or Dutch students with an international diploma

Requirements

External students who start the program at Tilburg University must:

  • hold an undergraduate university degree in the field of psychology,
  • should the undergraduate degree be in another subject than Psychology, the following criteria have to be fulfilled:

    • at least 90 ECTS of psychology courses, including:

      • at least 16 ECTS in quantitative methods/statistics and a lab project;
      • at least 4 ECTS in psychological assessment;
      • at least 3 ECTS in at least six of the following seven areas: general psychology, biological psychology, differential psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology, industrial and organizational psychology or clinical psychology.
  • have shown an interest in the field of Social, Economic and/or Cross-cultural Psychology specifically;
  • have adequate knowledge of research methods and techniques;
  • have demonstrated their English language proficiency (C1 CEFR) by submitting the results of either TOEFL (minimum 577 paper-based / 90 internet-based), IELTS (minimum 6.5 overall, no part less than 6.0), or Cambridge Proficiency or Cambridge Advanced (A-B-C) (or an equivalent language center test for TiU students);
  • obtained a GPA of >2.8  in their undergraduate degree on a German scale, >7.0 on a Dutch scale or equivalent;
  • provide two relevant and personalized reference letters: one academic, and one professional, for example through student assistant work, internships or other work experience;
  • have proven their sufficient motivation through a letter.
