"My name is João Paulo, and I’m a lucky Brazilian guy, who happens to have a wonderful and supportive family, some amazing friends and a lovely girlfriend. With such marvellous people surrounding me, I can only be grateful.

I may not be talkative, but I consider myself to be a warm and welcoming person. I care about people and therefore I love to make others happy. And that’s my fuel to make the world a better place, even if it’s only a little bit.

With a lot of hard work, I was able to graduate with a Law degree from one of the best Law schools of my country. Now, with the Alumni Scholarship I want to get one step further and finish my master’s with honours, achieving a new level of excellence. Preferably, put my new expertise into work, helping people and society, towards a better tomorrow."

Over Tilburg University en de Scholarship

"I had a marvellous first impression of Tilburg University. A beautiful green campus with modern buildings and well-designed interiors, professors from different countries and peers from all over the world. Add to that the fact that I was readily prepared and warmly welcomed by its staff and I couldn’t have had a better feeling towards this institution. When the classes started, though, I could feel it wasn’t just a good first impression. They really put a lot of effort to help us succeed. Lectures might be though and there might be a lot of materials to read, but that only means they trust our abilities and want us to overcome our own limits.
I’m really thankful for the Alumni Scholarship. I don’t know if I would be here today without it. It’s also an honour to have my previous work recognised and see that there are people out there willing to invest in my potential. I can only say I’ll do my very best here to achieve great things. I intent to not only grow as a person and academic, but also to honour this institution that welcomed me so greatly."

Het tweede semester

"When I first came to Tilburg, I liked the city. Calm, organized, with a lot of green areas. The university also made me enthusiastic, with a beautiful and modern campus and people from all around the globe. It was a good first impression. Now, a whole semester after I came here, things changed a little. The green fell of the trees and the city acquired a darker atmosphere with the coming of winter. As of the university, I got to feel it and know it better through all the lectures, events, associations, assignments, and exams. Now that I got to know better the places I live and study, I can say with confidence I enjoy them. The city, despite small, is adorable and it fits me well. About the university, I can say it is very demanding and very strict when dealing with grades, but it gives me support and structure to grow and to take this demand as an opportunity to thrive."

Connections

"The course is not focused on the area I like, which is robotics and artificial intelligence, but it forces me to see connections between my area of interest and the other areas, spreading my knowledge and making it more consistent. The course, and specially my thesis, is of great importance to me and they are preparing me very well to my future. I hope I can get a doctorate after I finish this masters and I feel like my development within this course will be crucial to that. This studies are of great importance to me personally and professionally. Coming from Brazil to the Netherlands to study was a unique opportunity. One that I will always remember. I can really feel the high educational standards they have here. Overall I can say I’m proud to be a student of Tilburg University and even prouder to be awarded an Alumni Scholarship. My studies are not over yet, but I can already say thank you, Tilburg University, for all you’ve proportionated me."
