CentER Society Prize 2004

In 2004, the prize was awarded for the best thesis statement (stelling) for a CentER thesis, and the winner was announced by the Dean of the Faculty of Economics of Tilburg University, during his Christmas speech, on 16 December 2004.
And the (2004) winner was.....
René Peeters
All graduate school alumni were invited to participate, not just members of CentER Society.
The Board of CentER Society narrowed the choice down to 6 statements (this was very difficult as there were many good ones!).
The nominations were:
1. It is estimated that the earth has turned on its axis approximately 2 trillion times. Is it any wonder that the world has turned mad?
Edwin van Dam (1996)
2. Economists who advocate a wage rise should earn less.
Erik Canton (1997)
3. If you don't see anything you like in the optician's window display, then you're at the right address.
Paul de Bijl (1996)
4. The corrections and additions to details of newspaper articles wrongly suggest that the rest of the article will be correct.
Richard Nahuis (2000)
5. Economists often do not approach useful problems correctly. Mathematicians usually solve non-useful problems correctly.
Bas Werker (1995)
6. History teaches us that we don't learn from history. (Derived from Aldous Huxley)
René Peeters (1995)
