Scholarships and Tuition
CentER offers scholarships and financial aid to help you with your tuition fee and cost of living. Below you can find more information on the following subjects:
Tilburg University offers several scholarships. Please click the links for more detailed information.
Koopmans scholarships of €1,000 net per month are available to excellent Research Master’s students joining the program in the first or second year. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit. They always include a tuition fee waiver for non-EEA students and for students who have already obtained a Dutch Master’s degree. Applicants who wish to be considered for a Koopmans Scholarship should submit their completed application by February 1st. Current Research Master students cannot apply for a Koopmans Scholarship
CentER scholarships of €420 net per month are available to excellent Research Master’s students joining the program in the first or second year. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit. They always include a tuition fee waiver for non-EEA students and for students who have already obtained a Dutch Master’s degree. Applicants who wish to be considered for a CentER Scholarship should submit their completed application by February 1st. Current Research Master students cannot apply for a CentER Scholarship.
Excellent students with a Bachelor’s degree of Tilburg University can apply for Excellence Scholarship. Please note that this scholarship is only available to full-time students with a Bachelor’s degree from Tilburg University. The scholarship consists of €2,500 plus €5,000 maximum in case of a Master's program abroad, depending on the tuition fee abroad. The scholarship must be used for a Master's program abroad or a Research Master’s program at Tilburg University. The scholarship recipient must obtain at least 45 ECTS of this program.

Research Master's students
Tuition fees for the academic year 2016/2017 are as follows:
- €1,984 for European Economic Area (EEA) citizens
- €14,000 for non-EEA citizens
Due to generous subsidies, top students from non-EEA countries who are
accepted to the Research Master’s program will receive substantial waivers, so
that only the legal minimum fee of approximately €1,984 has to be paid.
- If you require an entry visa and residence permit, you must pay an extra €300. More information about visa and residence permit costs.
- Your tuition fee covers one year of study. If you wish to register for a second year, you are required pay the tuition fee accordingly.
- If you are a student from an EU/EEA country, you have the opportunity to apply for a loan (‘collegegeldkrediet') from the Dutch government to cover the costs of your degree. For more information, please see tuition fees and rates and DUO-group.
- EEA students who have already obtained a Master’s degree at a Dutch institution should have to pay a tuition fee of approximately €14,000 instead of €1,984. However, students can request CentER will waive this amount to the statuary fee of €1,984.
All PhD candidates at CentER are considered employees of Tilburg University and will receive a starting salary of approximately €2,100 gross per month. This salary increases annually to result in a final salary of approximately €2,700 gross per month. All university salaries are based on collective agreements between Tilburg University and the labor unions representing university employees. PhD students are allowed to follow courses.
CentER students who are admitted to the Research Master’s program can make use of the accommodation services offered by Tilburg University. Please note that the university provides guidance and support in finding a room, but does not actually provide or guarantee accommodation. Please visit the accommodation website for more information.
CentER PhD candidates are expected to find their own accommodation, although international students can ask CentER Graduate Office for assistance.
Living in Tilburg is relatively cheap compared to other university cities such as Amsterdam and Utrecht. Living in the Netherlands as a student costs between €680 and €810 per month.
