Scholarships and Tuition

CentER offers scholarships and financial aid to help you with your tuition fee and cost of living. Below you can find more information on the following subjects:

Available scholarships

Tilburg University offers several waivers and scholarships. Please click the links for more detailed information.

Research Master waiver

Due to generous subsidies, top students from non-EEA countries who are accepted to the Research Master will receive substantial waiver reductions of up to € 12,517, so that only the Statutory Fee of € 2,083 has to be paid. 

Note that EEA students who have already obtained a Masters' degree at a Dutch institution have to pay the Institutional Fee. However, students can request CentER to waiver this amount to the Statutory Fee of € 2,083.

Koopmans Scholarships

Koopmans scholarships of € 12,000 net per year are available for excellent students joining the program in the first or second year. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit. Applicants who wish to be considered for a Koopmans Scholarship should submit their completed application by February 1st, 2019.

CentER Scholarships

CentER scholarships of € 6,200 net per year are available to excellent students joining the program in the first or second year. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit. Applicants who wish to be considered for a CentER Scholarship should submit their completed application by February 1st, 2019.

Tuition fees

Research Master's students

Tuition fees for the academic year 2019/2020 are as follows:

  • € 2,083 for EU/EEA nationalities
  • € 14,600 for non-EU/EEA nationalities

Due to generous subsidies, top students from non-EEA countries who are accepted to the Research Master will receive substantial waiver reductions of up to € 12,517, so that only the Statutory Fee of € 2,083 has to be paid.

Please note:

  • If you require an entry visa and residence permit, you must pay an extra € 300. More information about visa and residence permit costs.
  • Your tuition fee covers one year of study. If you wish to register for a second year, you are required pay the tuition fee accordingly.
  • If you are a student from an EU/EEA country, you have the opportunity to apply for a loan (‘collegegeldkrediet') from the Dutch government to cover the costs of your degree. For more information, please see tuition fees and rates and DUO-group.

PhD students

All PhD candidates at CentER are considered employees of Tilburg University and will receive a starting salary of approximately € 2,100 gross per month. This salary increases annually to result in a final salary of approximately € 2,700 gross per month. All university salaries are based on collective agreements between Tilburg University and the labor unions representing university employees. PhD students are allowed to follow courses.

Housing/accommodation

CentER students who are admitted to the Research Master’s program can make use of the accommodation services offered by Tilburg University. Please note that the university provides guidance and support in finding a room, but does not actually provide or guarantee accommodation. CentER PhD candidates are expected to find their own accommodation, although international students can ask CentER Graduate Office for assistance.

Living expenses

Living in Tilburg is relatively cheap compared to other university cities such as Amsterdam and Utrecht. Living in the Netherlands as a student costs between € 680 and € 810 per month.

Below is a general overview of your cost of living in Tilburg per year. The estimated costs can vary per person and also depend on your lifestyle. Please note that these figures are subject to change and that the tuition fee is not included in this overview.

  • Accommodation: € 4,500 - € 5,700
  • Food: € 3,000
  • Books and readers: € 800
  • Health, liability and travel insurance fee: € 450*
  • A bicycle and lock, if applicable: € 125
  • Six-month sports card, if applicable: € 131
  • Total: € 8,750 - € 10,250

Financial aid

Scholarships

You can find an overview of available scholarships on the scholarship page. CentER offers Koopmans Scholarships and CentER scholarships. All students who apply before February 1 are automatically considered for a Koopmans scholarship or CentER scholarship.

Student Assistantships

The two types of student assistantships are Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant. Please find out more about student assistantships.

Once enrolled in the program, Research Master's and PhD students can apply for reimbursements of several costs.
