Abstract:

THE MACROECONOMICS OF FISCAL POLICY AND PUBLIC CAPITAL. This thesis deals with the macroeconomic effects of fiscal policy, with a special focus on the effects of public infrastructure investment. The thesis first conducts a meta-analysis of the output elasticity of public capital. Subsequently, it builds a micro-founded macroeconomic model to analytically study the dynamic output and welfare effects of public infrastructure investment. Finally, it empirically investigates the long-term interest rate effects of fiscal policy changes.
