Abstract:

This thesis contains a collection of both empirical and theoretical papers on labour economics. The first paper analyses the effects of macro-economic conditions on the incidence and duration of unemployment, comparing different age groups. In the second per we extend our analysis by distinguishing transitions to employment and non-participation. The third paper deals with the determinants of part-time employment growth. In particular, we investigate whether labour demand or labour supply caused the incre e in Dutch part-time employment. Finally, we contribute to the bargaining literature by extending the alternating offer model to allow for finite contract durations.
