Abstract:
This thesis investigates investment flows of hedge fund and mutual fund investors. The first
chapter provides an overview for hedge fund and mutual fund industries, and introduces the
research questions explored further in the thesis. The second chapter studies the way hedge
fund investors take into account style information when making their investment decisions.
The third chapter reexamines the “smart money” effect, comparing the fund selection ability
of retail mutual fund investors against this ability of institutional mutual fund investors. The
fourth chapter compares fund selection criteria for retail and institutional funds’ investors.
