Abstract:
This dissertation deals with the adoption of IT processes and products that are to be repeatedly and consistently used in a company. Such processes and products are known as COMPANY IT STANDARDS. This research details the complex relationship between the company IT standardization process, the implementation and use of these company IT standards, and resulting impact on business performance. It focuses on how to ensure that the expected business benefits resulting from company IT standards will be met. This is an area of research that had previously never been comprehensively analyzed. Through a number of case studies a conceptual model is evaluated and subsequently amended.
From a practical point of view, this research provides insight into how company IT standards affect business process performance. Furthermore it gives recommendations on how to govern and manage such standards successfully with regard to their selection, implementation and usage. After evaluating this research Business may wish to reconsider the way it currently views the value of company IT standards and the manner with which it deals with them.
