Op 10 december 2010 van 10:00-12:45 uur organiseren INTERVICT (International Victimology Intsitute Tilburg) en TILT (Tilburg Institute for Law, Technology and Society), beide onderdeel van Tilburg University, een seminar over de bestrijding van financiële identiteitsdiefstal in Nederland.

De rest van het seminar is Nederlandstalig. Prof. dr.

Expert seminar: Crime-related Posttraumatic Stress Disorder
On 12 May 2010 the International Victimology Institute Tilburg (INTERVICT) will organize an expert seminar about crime-related Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and related disorders. During this seminar Professor Dean Kilpatrick will provide a keynote speech.
Professor Kilpatrick is Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Director of the National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center at the Medical University of South Carolina. He has published in numerous peer-reviewed scientific journals and books and was awarded several prestigious grants for his work.
In his presentation professor Kilpatrick will draw from his own research and his experiences as a clinical psychologist working with victims of crime. Professor Aldert Vrij will act as referee and is one of the most famous experts in the field of psychology and law. Experts from different background and disciplines working with victims of crime will have a panel discussion. Audience members will be encouraged to participate in the discussion.
This lecture is not only important for social scientists but also for lawyers because issues such as malingering and detection are often subject of discussion in legal processes.
This expert seminar is followed by the public defense of INTERVICT researcher Maarten Kunst. His thesis is entitled The Burden of Interpersonal Violence: examining the psychosocial aftermath of victimization.

3 December 2009
Alette Smeulers.

Expert symposium, Tilburg University
Rightly concerned: considering rape attrition
The past thirty years have been marked by efforts, most notably in a growing number of Western countries, to make the criminal justice system more responsive to victims' needs in general. Specific laws have been devised to improve procedural-legal concerns (inter alia, right to provide victim-statement, right to information) and to provide various forms of support to victims (psycho-social support, financial compensation et cetera).
During this symposium recent research will be presented that pays closer attention to how this development has played out in practice with regard to sexual victimization.
Program

Standards for Victims of Terrorism, Tilburg University
The heightened awareness and consequences of terrorism for victims of terrorist acts has led to the inclusion of their needs in a number of international legal instruments of international bodies like the EU, the Council of Europe and the UN. However, these instruments are relatively abstract or include victims of terrorism under the broader heading of victims of crime in general. This is why the European Commission launched a preparatory action to support projects in favour of victims of terrorist actsand to promote the European dimension of support actions in favour of victims.
