INTERVICT

The International Victimology Institute Tilburg promotes and executes interdisciplinary research that can contribute to a comprehensive, evidence-based body of knowledge on the empowerment and support of victims of crime and abuse of power.

INTERVICT

Visitors' Program

INTERVICT encourages qualified applicants with interests in the broad field of victimology to come to Tilburg as Visiting Research Fellow or Scholar. These visitors, working as they do within the Institute's premises, receive constant stimulus from the Institute's own staff. They have come from many different countries. To date the Institute had had visitors from Belgium, Canada, Eritrea, India, Indonesia, Italy, Serbia, Slovakia and Spain.

Candidates for a Visiting Fellowship / Scholarship
The Program for Visiting Fellows and Scholars is open to PhD candidates, (postdoc) researchers and academic staff from both within and outside European Union countries. The Institute is not yet directly involved in the University's teaching activities in criminology or victimology. All enquiries about University degrees and admission should be made to the University itself. The Visiting Fellows' or Scholars' stay at INTERVICT should contribute to the overall research program of INTERVICT. More information on our research website.

  • To promote and execute interdisciplinary research that can contribute to an evidence based body of knowledge on the empowerment and support of victims of crime and abuse of power through research and publication.
Applications include:

Work programme
The candidate's research interests and activities during the visit should be in line with INTERVICT's mission, focal areas and competences. CV
The candidate's work is of high quality, as indicated by his/her scientific past performance.

Financial responsibility
The Institute is not in a position to provide financial assistance to Visiting Fellows or Scholars. Visiting Fellows and Scholars pay a bench fee to assist in covering the cost of provision of facilities at the Institute, including computers, libraries (Tilburg University Library) and desk space ("Cost", see below). If extensive additional (i.e. computer or secretarial) support is required, this may be subject to an additional charge. A short budget plan with expected expenditures will be requested (see also "Cost" below). All visitors must be able to assure the Institute that they have the means to support themselves for the whole of their stay (e.g. proof of scholarschip/copies of labour agreement/bank statement/payslip).

How to apply
Applications can be made at any time, but at least 4 months prior to the date of intended arrival. Because office space is limited, early application is advised. The Tilburg Law School will assist in applying for visa and/or resident permits. Please be aware that this application procedure itself may take up to 3 months. More information about visa/resident permits can be found here.

Provided the application falls within the scope of INTERVICT's remit and the applicant seems a reasonable prospect as a visitor, we will forward information on facilities, participation in the Institute's activities, visa/residence permit procedures etc. Please be aware that to be granted a residence permit you need to prove to have a minimum income of €670 net. This minimum will not be enough to provide for maintenance cost. For this you should take into account that you need an income of at least €1250 per month.

An application form can be found here.
Send in application form to intervict@uvt.nl. Make sure that all required documents are attached.

Candidates will be informed on the application result shortly after.
