Founding History
The Research Group for Methodology of Law and Legal Research was established in June 2007, following the foundation of Tilburg University's Graduate Law School in January 2007. The Graduate Law School of the Tilburg Law Faculty was formally established as the successor of the renowned Schoordijk Institute.
The Schoordijk Institute hosted the Research School for Legislative Studies, which received an accreditation by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) in 2000. Within the Research School, a select group of researchers from various research centers of the Law Faculty cooperated on a thematic and voluntary basis.
At first, the main focus of the research conducted by the Research School lay on jurisprudence and comparative law. In recent years, however, there has been a shift in focus towards theory and methods of lawmaking. As a result, the Research School for Legislative Studies will continue as the Research Group for Methodology of Law and Legal Research.
