Doctoral fellowships

National
  • NWO Onderzoekstalent
    Submission of application by full professors or associate professors of Dutch universities.

    For graduate students whose parents are born in specified target countries.

International
  • AXA Research fund
    Research themes: Life risks, SocioEconomic Risks, Environmental Risks. Submission of application by the candidate him/herself.

Travel grants for doctoral candidates
  • Erasmus exchange (3-12 months)
    For intra-European exchange. Please contact the International Office.
  • Erasmus staff training (at least 5 days excluding travel)
    For training purposes at universities, research institutes or enterprises within Europe (conference visits included). Please contact the International Office.
  • Fulbright fellowship
    For researchers with the Dutch nationality or for other-nationality researchers who have lived in the Netherlands for more than 5 years. Stipend for a 3-6 month research project in the United States.

    For 2-12 years post-PhD researchers.
  • ERC Advanced Investigators Grant
    For scientifically independent researchers who have recent research track-record and profile which identifies them as leaders in their respective field(s) of research.

  • Marie Curie International Outgoing Fellowship
    • Experienced researcher applies in collaboration with host
    • 12-24 month funding, mandatory return phase of 12 months (full salary coverage + contribution for host organization)

    • Experienced researcher applies in collaboration with host

    For researchers who belong to the top of their field or have this potential.

Zorgverzekeraars / Insurance companies
For projects that focus on the improvement of health care and with immediate benefits for the patient. Fundamental research is not supported; applied research is (but not always). In general, the grants are awarded in the region where the insurance company is located.
