TiCC Colloquium: Roberto Martinez-Maldonado

What: Multimodal and writing analytics research at the Connected Intelligence Centre, UT Sydney
Where: DZ 10
When: Thursday, 20 July 2017, 12:45 - 13:45 hours

Abstract

The Learning Analytics research and practice field has been steadily growing in the last few years. Will this translate into a real shift in education? In the Connected Intelligence Centre (CIC) at the University of Sydney, we are working on making the most of student's data by applying data science techniques, from providing minimalist visual to student to generating meaning using machine learning algorithms. The principles underpinning our work include student-centred design, democracy, inclusion and ethical values. This talk is aimed at showcasing the kind of research currently unfolding at CIC, with a particular emphasis on Multimodal Learning Analytics across Physical Spaces.

About Roberto Martinez-Maldonado

Roberto Martinez-Maldonado is a full time research fellow at the Connected Intelligence Centre (CIC) at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS), Australia. His areas of research include Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer-Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) and Human-Centred Data Science (Learning Analytics, Artificial Intelligence). In the past years, his research has focused on applying data mining techniques to help understand how people learn and collaborate in physical environments. He has taken the lead role of the Cross-LAK initiative (Learning Analytics across Physical and Digital Spaces). Here are links to his UTS bio and publications.
