Hosting institutional repositories
Since 2006, the Library and IT Services department of Tilburg University has been hosting institutional repositories for third parties, e.g., for Dutch Universities of Applied Sciences.
The Tilburg University service consists of:
- setting up the repository
- hosting the repository
Software
Tilburg University uses the same facilities as for their own institutional repository: the ARNO system for the entry of metadata and the storage of accompanying documents. ARNO is an implementation of the OAI-protocol for Metadata Harvesting. ARNO is an open source product. The source code is maintained by Tilburg University.
Archives
Our clients can decide on the number of archives in their repository. Most of our clients currently have an archive for theses and an archive for papers and articles. Some of them have a test archive as well. There is no limit on the number of archives.
Record structure
The basis for the internal record structure of an ARNO archive was defined in the end report of the DARE project Scripties Online. It is a proven and solid record structure.
Searching the repositories
Tilburg University does not offer a search service. However, since the repositories confirm to OAI standards, all sorts of existing search services can be used (e.g., the HBO Kennisbank, AquaBrowser, and Metalib).
Storage
For every client, 10 Gigabyte is available for storing documents. Additional storage is possible.
