Specialisation Course on Privacy and Personal Data
In 2012, TILT will organize, together with law firm De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek and ICT-Office (branch organisation for ICT companies) the previously very successful post-graduate course on privacy and personal data protection. During the 4-day course (on Fridays), participants will gain an in-depth understanding of both the relevant Dutch legislation (Wet bescherming persoonsgegevens) and case law but also of recent developments such as the scheduled revision of the European Privacy Directive and amendments of the national legislation. Considerable attention will also be given to issues such as cross-border data exchanges (within companies themselves and with third parties) and contract work in relation to personal data protection transfer (different types of processor agreements like database hosting, IT outsourcing and Cloud Computing contracts). The course will enable you to assist, litigate and execute the majority of privacy related issues. Practical examples will provide you with a comprehensive overview and understanding of the core conventions and concepts of personal data protection law and day-to-day practices. The course will be held at Tilburg University on 16/3, 30/3, 13/4 and 27/4.

The course is in Dutch. For more information and registration see registratieformulier. Please read interesting article about the previous course in Dutch here post-doc opleiding.

New Dutch Expertise center 'Privacy & Identity Lab'
The Hague, 17 November 2011 – The Radboud University, TNO, Tilburg University and SIDN, the company behind .nl domains, will collaborate in developing better solutions for managing online privacy and electronic identities. To this end they have decided to set up an expertise center, the ‘Privacy & Identity Lab’ (PI.lab) that will combine their current research and enable them to start-up new research. This joint collaboration is unique because it involves research into the technical, legal and social-economic aspects of privacy and identity.

Privacy protection
The parties have established PI.lab because in our society, it has become crucial to have adequate privacy protection and proper identity management. Ronald Leenes, professor of Regulation by Technology at Tilburg University and Scientific Director of the lab: “At the same time we see that acceptation and development of important social ICT systems do not function properly if they are not given sufficient attention and also because these systems are becoming increasingly more complex. The troublesome histories of the Electronic Patient Record, the “OV Chip Card” and the Smart Meter bear witness to this.” Read more launch PI.lab
