ING charity fund ‘écht©goed doen’ sponsors Microjustice Kenia
(May 2012) ING employee Peter Smits submitted a funding request for the Microjustice Kenia Project in the second round of the Dutch ING Charity ‘écht©goed doen’. ING employees could vote for their favourite project. End result of the thrilling competition is a smashing fourth place and a grant of 50,000 euros for the Microjustice Kenia Project. ING’s Peter Smits and TISCO’s Jin Ho Verdonschot will keep us posted on the developments and results of MJ Kenia.

Martin Gramatikov invited for Expert Meeting "Acces to Justice"
(01 March 2012) On 7-8 March 2012 Martin Gramatikov will take part in an expert meeting on indicators of access to justice. The meeting is convened by the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights and will bring together 10-15 experts from various fields to discuss theories and operationalizations of indicators of access to justice. It is anticipated that the results of the meeting will contribute to the research programs of the Agency and will pinpoint innovative approaches to the measurement of fundamental rights in the European Union.

Paper Presentation Martin Gramatikov in Brussels
(01 March 2012) Martin Gramatikov and Morag Goodwin (Department European and International Public Law) will present a paper titled “Access to Civil Justice for the Roma in Bulgaria: empirical analysis” at a conference “Europe and the Roma: Where do we stand now”. The conference is organized by the Institute for European Studies based at the Vrije Universiteit Brussels and will take place on 16 March 2012 in Brussels. Martin and Morag will present results of a cross-sectional survey which studied the distribution of and experience with civil legal problems in Bulgaria. The main focus of the paper is the comparison between Roma people and other ethnic groups – what are the civil legal problems they face, how they respond to these problems and how civil law impacts their daily life.
