Koen Grootens studied medicine and successfully defended his PhD -thesis at Radboud University in Nijmegen. He finished his psychiatrist -training at the Radboud University Medical Centre. From 2008, he worked as a psychiatrist in Canisisus Wilhelmina Hospital in Nijmegen, and from 2014 at Reinier van Arkel in 's Hertogenbosch, where he is head of the residency training program. In 2017 he was registered as a clinical pharmacologist. He has extensive clinical, teaching and research experience in psychiatry, most prominently clinical pharmacology, shared decision making and bipolar mood disorders. From April 2022, he will continue his research work as a professor at Tranzo, Tilburg university, focusing his research on shared decision making in the treatment of patients with severe mental health disorder.
